A slip of silver white, fur catching on the branches, dashing through the trees, moon shining down, racing through the outskirts of San Francisco, breathing in the forest smell. This was home, this was life, this was her. After a twelve hour shift at the clinic, and then the hospital, she needed a good run, a good tongue lolling out of the mouth. It wasn't a want, it was a necessity of life. Yes, she didn't have to shift to run, but sometimes you just needed your other half, and well this was her other half.. a wolf. She survived as a wolf, it was her, but she also had to put on her human clothes ever once in a while. Her stepfather, whom she called Da, had always said to her and about her, "She there, she be a wolf in human clothing." She was born a wolf, and had to learn to become a human. It wasn't wolf nature to act human, to walk through doors without checking for danger. To let one get mugged in the middle of the city... actually she still felt bad about that one. The said mugger was only a younger kid and she had smashed his face in, and gave him quite the fright as her eyes glowed the yellow of the wolfs. Something she hadn't yet managed to control. The wolf gave her away at times, making her have to move and relocate, take on another name. This time she was back to being herself. Back to being Ashley Frost. Her birth name.
She skidded to a stop in the moist soil, scenting for animal, and most especially, werewolf. She wasn't joking herself, she knew she wasn't alone in this city, but she sure as hell wished they'd leave her alone. Some one last week actually had the audacity to claim her as mate, because she didn't have a pack.. ooo her blood had seethed. But she taught him a lesson. A vixen with not only brawn but a tongue to match. She huffed softly in the wild, moving into a laying position as she overlooked the lights of San Francisco through the trees. This was life, tomorrow the pretending would return. She huffed again, but set her head in her paws as she thought of the children she would be able to help tomorrow that could have been her. It was a rewarding job to have, and one she wouldn't give up, even if her aging didn't change. Even if she went to jail or a hamster lab. She was a doctor, she was able to care for the children like her, homeless, parentless. She wasn't going to let anyone take it away.
Froze.. a twig snapped. Ashley sat in wait of what was to come, wondering who was out in the outskirts in the mere moments of morning.
