It was an ordinary day for Merry in her home. She was relaxing and enjoying the last lazy days of summer, sitting out in her garden and enjoying the scent of the roses as they bloomed in the bright summer weather. She rocked back and forth in the swing that she had set up in her garden, the breeze teasing through her chestnut mane playfully as she inhaled slowly and let the summer sounds tickle her senses. Granted, she wasn't a child any more but there were some days when you wanted to enjoy the simple things in life. Her pale summer dress fluttered in the breeze as her swing shifted back and forth.
Relaxing in the drowsy weather, Merry stretched gently and slowly let go of her worries one by one. The reason she had a swing in her garden was that it had a hypnotic effect on her and put her at peace with the world around her. It allowed her to think on things and analyze them at a much slower rate. While many saw this as a bit of a drawback, for Merry it allowed her to see pieces of the puzzle that might not otherwise be there. Nuances and subtleties that she missed the first time round.
Her cousin Peyton was one such case, she always was running. In some ways Payton was more free than herself. Merry had the house here and school. Peyton had whatever she wanted with no responsibilities. That was very comforting in and of itself. Brushing her hair over her shoulders, Merry began swinging higher and higher to get away from her glum thoughts. There was no point in comparing herself to another person. She was unique and while she didn't think she was a special snowflake like some people might, she did respect the differences that made up the world.
